Children at the Onehunga Library storytime session on Saturday May 7, 2016 were thrilled when Toot the whale surprised them with a visit!
Auckland Author Joy Ramirez read her story ‘Toot – The World’s Tiniest Whale’ about his epic adventure as he jumps from a fishbowl to a drink to soup to a dog bowl, and more, in his quest to find the sea.
The ‘Toot the whale’ mascot joined her to perform the book’s theme song, ‘Keep on Swimming’, which encourages kids to persevere.
The audience of over 40 Onehunga children and parents giggled and grooved along to the story, song and dance.
Booksellers NZ blog reviewer Christine Frayling praised ‘Toot – The World’s Tiniest Whale’ in her book review:
“The wonderfully colourful characters of Henry the Fifth – the Royal Goldfish, Lord Squigglebottom and Princess Bambella had 4-year-old Abby in stitches laughing her head off at their antics. We both enjoyed finding out how Toot manages to fulfil his dream… This is a fabulous book with wonderful illustrations. Abby was trying hard to find a way to sneak this book into her already groaning bookcase of ‘favourite’ books. Auckland illustrator Mike Chapman created the delightful illustrations in ‘Toot – The World’s Tiniest Whale’.”
The book is available at Whitcoulls, Paper Plus and selected independent bookstores in New Zealand. It is available worldwide through the Toot online store at www.toot.nz.
